Three women meet at their fifteen-year class reunion...and discover that their lives have taken unexpected directions.

Back in their college days, Gretchen Wise had been engaged to a top law student. Carol Furness, head cheerleader, had said yes to the school's football hero. And Maddie Cobain was the girl who'd fallen for a professor.

Now the three of them gather around a popular fountain on the college grounds. This fountain was where lovers met, where promises were made...and broken. So it's fitting that Gretchen, Carol and Maddie sit here to share their stories of betrayal and, yes, revenge. Stories of finding new love...

Originally published in 1997, Macomber's romance traces the lives of three women who reconnect at their 15-year class reunion. The last they knew, all of them were engaged to be married and ready to live happily ever after. However, things didn't work out for any of them. The three friends share their tales of romantic loss: one groom unfaithful, another off to baseball's big leagues, and the third a professor who enjoyed a dalliance with a co-ed. The three women discuss their heartbreak and the possibility of finding new romance with the right man. Emily Beresford's narration lacks enthusiasm. Although she has a lovely voice and her reading is clear and well paced, her performance is not compelling. Her portrayals of the three friends are uninspired, and she does little to differentiate between the characters or create distinct voices. A Harlequin Mira paperback.

Three college classmates meet at their 15th reunion to discover that their lives have taken unexpected twists. Upon graduation, each planned to marry, but was betrayed by the man she trusted. Each in turn relates the story of her heartbreak, her recovery and how she found--and may have lost--true love with another man. The cliche-ridden prose never rises above the serviceable, and the characters are fundamentally archetypes, from the bad boy on a motorcycle to the computer nerd who whips off his metaphorical glasses and becomes a hunk (is it purely by chance that he's named Clark?). Still, popular romance writer Macomber (This Matter of Marriage) has a gift for evoking the emotions that are at the heart of the genre's popularity, and her breezy style keeps the pages turning to the predictable, but still satisfying, happy ending.
