This latest in the long-running series focuses on crocheted garments and accessories for babies and toddlers. The projects are organized by type, including hats, socks and booties, tops and dresses, bottoms, bibs and washcloths, toys, blankets, and bags and accessories. The majority of the patterns feature newborn to 12-month sizing, while some include larger sizes (up to 5T in a few instances), along with the occasional pattern intended for mom or dad. Standouts include an adorable daddy-and-me set of T-shirts highlighting a crocheted necktie, a beginner-friendly toddler cape perfect for keeping warm (or for superhero play), a cat lovey that makes use of the color changes in the suggested yarn, and a crocodile-stitch diaper cover. Written instructions are included for all patterns, with charted instructions as needed, and the glossary and appendix cover crochet basics. VERDICT All the hallmarks of the series are present--a diverse array of projects at varying skill levels, complete with easy-to-follow instructions and gorgeous photography of babies and toddlers wearing, playing with, and using the finished items. Crocheters with an interest in baby clothing and accessories will find plenty to choose from in this collection.

This latest entry in the One-Skein Wonders series features virtually every type of project one could hope to crochet for a baby or toddler, including sweaters, socks, sleep sacks, bibs, blankets, bags, and much more. There are even a few projects for the little one's parents. Editors Durant and Eckman have once again gathered a well-rounded assortment of projects in which there's sure to be at least one (but probably more) that practically begs to be made. Patterns are clear and concise and usually fit on one or two pages. Many include charts as well as written instructions, and at least one color photograph is provided for each pattern. An index to projects by yarn weight makes it easy for readers to match them up with a yarn stash. Handy tips on topics such as sizing and safety are scattered throughout, featuring valuable information the crocheter will continue to use in future projects. Covering a lot of ground in one volume, this thorough collection would be a valuable addition to libraries where crochet books are in demand.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2016, American Library Association.)
